De Haan's presentation, titled "AI in Quality Management: A Vision for the Future," explores how artificial intelligence is creating a paradigm shift in quality management software —moving from traditional linear workflows to contextual, conversational interactions.
"What we are working on right now is the ability to simply define your business logic in natural language and have a copilot generate the expressions so that you don't need to go through a ton of examples and documentation of the expression engine, but instead just ask it the question and it provides you with the expression," explains de Haan. "Maybe you need to tweak it a little, but 80-90% of the expression should be there already."
Key highlights from de Haan's presentation will include:
- The evolution of AI from conversational interfaces to agentic systems that can reason, plan, and act
- How AI assistants embedded in familiar tools like Microsoft Teams can dramatically lower barriers to quality system adoption
- Practical use cases including automated analysis of quality metrics, identification of similar incidents, CAPA recommendation, and parsing unstructured data
- A framework for building trust in AI systems—treating them as "junior team members" whose capabilities grow over time
When discussing the current limitations of AI technology, de Haan offers an insightful perspective: "If you look at ChatGPT, there's a disclaimer on the bottom of every screen that says, 'AI may make mistakes.' That's where we are today, and it will improve over time. The power of generative AI comes from the fact that it can create things that you didn't train it on previously, so there is a natural requirement for it to hallucinate and come up with new stuff. But there's a risk in there because that may not be grounded to your context."
